Summary: ABOUT THE BOOK:- Disaster management occupies an important place in this country’s policy framework as it is the poor and the under-privileged who are worst affected on account of calamities. India has been traditional vulnerable to the natural disasters on the account of unique geo-climatic conditions. Floods, droughts, cyclones, earthquakes and landslides would have been a recurrent phenomena. The record of Indian society as a whole has been quite dismal as far as disaster relief and managing the situation arising in the wake of a calamity is concerned. The national and state governments carry out most of the brunt and coordination for disaster relief. It is in this area that India needs improvement in its approach and handling of disaster like situations. National Disaster Management Authority is an agency, whose primary purpose is to coordinate response to natural or man-made disasters. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- COL. (Dr.) Prof. RAJESH KUMAR, a naïve country boy Raju from Bhojpur in Bihar joined Indian Army, commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in Corps of Signals at the age of 22 and still discharging his selfless service dedicated to the nation in olive green. He commanded a platoon, company, battalion in operational areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and Punjab. Colonel Rajesh is recognized as an authority on counter-terrorist operations extensive research on Disaster Management and earned his Ph.D. Degree from Ranchi University. The adventurist Captain Rajesh while leading the Indian Motorcycles Team Dare-Devils, during 3rd National Games, Pune on 25 Jan 1994 and got his name embossed in Guinness Book of World Records. He led the Army Mountaineering Expedition Aarohi in year 2001. Of late he has been awarded JHARKHAND RATNA, and also The BIHAR GAURAV in 2013. He is presently with the Jharkhand Govt. from Indian Army on deputation, as Associate Professor to the Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University. CONTENTS:- Acknowledgements 13 Preface 15 1.
