Summary, etc. The root cause of any crime is a drive (instinct plus intelligence and rationality) or a combination of drives in man. This activating force is further strengthened by many factors found operating outside a crime-doer. Hence, a search for identifying the etiological factors of crime besides and beyond the drives is a futile exercise. The author explains this by his PUSH- PULL-EGO FACTOR Theory of crime causation.

The book exposes the ineffectiveness of the cause-effect relationship in criminology when he applies his theory to many issues in crime and justice areas and the author makes an attempt to analyze them in the light of his new approach. Push Factors are the Drives, Pull Factors are the Environment and they interact to form an EGO which will contain the Do's and Don'ts in human behaviour. The formation of the EGO in an upright way in the right direction is the only way to reduce crimes in society. Though prevention of crime is an impossibility, the author says emphatically that reduction of crimes is quite possible if the EGO is developed uprightly in the right direction. Such an EGO will experience guilt feelings whenever it violates a norm, law, rule or regulation. Anyone interested to reduce crime in society will find the book extremely useful.
